Hotkeys
This page lists common WonderPen desktop shortcuts for the interface, sidebars, document management and editing.
These are the default desktop shortcuts. Some actions require focus in the relevant panel. On macOS, ⌘ means Command and Option is ⌥; you may need to hold Fn when using function keys assigned to brightness or volume.

Ctrl + 1 / 2 (⌘ + 1 / 2 on macOS) operate on the left sidebar and right sidebar respectively. They do not always open the directory tree or Info panel:
- If the entire sidebar is hidden, show and focus it while preserving which panels were expanded.
- If the sidebar has an expanded panel but is not focused, focus it first; press again to hide it.
- If only the toolbar is visible and all its panels are collapsed, hide the sidebar directly.
Sidebar Operations
The directory tree is in the Document panel, which is on the left by default but can be moved to the right. Before using directory tree navigation keys, make the Document panel visible and focus its sidebar.
Click a document in the tree to make the Document panel active, then use the keys below. When editing a title or another text field, keys are used for text editing first.
| Key (All Platforms) | Action |
|---|---|
| ↑ / ↓ | Select the previous or next visible document without expanding collapsed children |
| ← | Collapse the selected document’s children; if already collapsed or there are no children, select its parent |
| → | Expand the selected document’s children; after using the left arrow to select a parent, return to the child you came from |
| Enter | Create a document at the same level below the selected one |
| F2 | Edit the selected document’s title; exactly one document must be selected |

Editing Shortcuts
These shortcuts act on the current editor pane. One-click formatting and chapter splitting require focus in the editor.
| Action | Shortcuts (Windows/Linux) | Shortcuts (macOS) |
|---|---|---|
| Split Editor | Shift + Ctrl + \ | Shift + ⌘ + \ |
| Format Current Document (One-Click Formatting) | Ctrl + G or F9 | ⌘ + G or F9 |
| Find and Replace | Ctrl + F | ⌘ + F |
| Split Chapter | Ctrl + Alt + K | ⌘ + Option + K |
| Split Chapter and Use Selected Text as Title | Ctrl + Alt + Shift + K | ⌘ + Option + Shift + K |
The document editor in floating windows also supports Ctrl + G / ⌘ + G and F9 to trigger one-click formatting.
Splitting a chapter divides its content into two documents. This differs from splitting the editor, which only changes the layout. See Document Splitting and Merging for details.
Document editing operations (active when the cursor is in the editor):
| Action | Shortcuts (Windows/Linux) | Shortcuts (macOS) |
|---|---|---|
| Undo | Ctrl + Z | ⌘ + Z |
| Redo | Ctrl + Shift + Z | ⌘ + Shift + Z |
| Cut | Ctrl + X | ⌘ + X |
| Copy | Ctrl + C | ⌘ + C |
| Paste | Ctrl + V | ⌘ + V |
| Select All | Ctrl + A | ⌘ + A |
| Bold | Ctrl + B | ⌘ + B |
| Italic | Ctrl + I | ⌘ + I |
If no text is selected, pressing the bold or italic shortcut enters the corresponding input mode, and any text you type afterwards is automatically styled. Press the same shortcut again to exit.
You can change the redo shortcut to Ctrl + Y (⌘ + Y on macOS) in Settings → Advanced → Document Editing. The table shows the default combination. Bold and italic shortcuts do not apply to text inside code blocks.
